About us

Founded in 1913, the Morris Museum is an award-winning, multifaceted arts and cultural institution serving the public through its exhibitions and performances, which strive to interpret the past and discover the future through art, sound, and motion. The Museum is home to the historic and internationally-significant Murtogh D. Guinness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata. • The stellar exhibition, “James Prosek: At Work,” closed in June, but it is remembered fondly by art critic Tris McCall. In his top NJ art shows of 2025, he describes “At Work” as an exhibition that he couldn’t “shake,” and its powerful portrayal of the natural world stays with him. Check out his complete list of top NJ art exhibitions here: https://lnkd.in/ei8BbQTi Also mentioned is the still-open “Digital Divine.” Come check it out and the recently opened “Contemporary Volumes” exhibitions. #Jamesprosek #MorrisMuseum #FieldGuides Artwork Caption: James Prosek, "Sonoran Desert No. 1", 2022. • Today, we hosted a group of Librarians from the Main Library Alliance, which connects over 50 libraries in seven counties and 100 municipalities serving over 1 million people. These librarians were given a tour of the “Contemporary Volumes” exhibition by Museum staff. Thanks for joining us, and a big thank you to the Main Library Alliance for organizing this event. “Contemporary Volumes” explores the beauty of books, literature, art, and the meanings hidden between the lines. Through sculpture, installation, and mixed media, this exhibition explores how artists use the form, function, and symbolism of books to challenge conventions, reshape narratives, and expand the possibilities of both art and language. The exhibition features the works of nine artists from across the US: Brian Dettmer, Colette Fu, Samuelle Greene, Cheryl Gross, Amanda Love, Sarah Matthews, Cheryl R. Riley, Susan Rostow, and Diana Schmertz. Support for this exhibition is provided by M&T Bank Charitable Foundation.
