Partnership launches tailored digital discovery platform powered by Project Healthy Minds’ technology, as well as research and content initiatives to address unique mental health challenges facing the music community

Project Healthy Minds, a leading mental health nonprofit, and Music Health Alliance, the national leader in providing trusted advocacy and access to healthcare, health insurance, and mental health resources for the music community, announced today a strategic partnership to expand mental health access and support for music industry professionals nationwide.

This collaboration will focus on research-driven solutions, innovative programming, and sustainable pathways to care for the music community. The partnership’s initial phase includes launching a custom, co-branded digital platform powered by Project Healthy Minds’ technology, which will be integrated on the Music Health Alliance website to serve as an additional resource for music professionals seeking mental health support. The organizations will also collaborate on research and reporting to identify barriers to care, develop targeted interventions, and create scalable solutions that address the unique mental health challenges facing music industry professionals.

“Music professionals give so much of themselves to the world, often at great personal cost,” said Tatum Hauck Allsep, Founder & CEO, Music Health Alliance. “There are unique pressures being a touring artist or industry leader that make it so hard to ask for help. The first step in this groundbreaking partnership between Music Health Alliance and Project Healthy Minds is a solution ensuring that safe, confidential, and trusted mental health support is available quickly and easily to music industry professionals wherever and whenever there is a need.”

“The music industry faces mental health challenges at rates higher than the general public, yet traditional systems aren’t built for touring artists, studio musicians or crew members working irregular hours,” said Phil Schermer, Founder & CEO of Project Healthy Minds. “This partnership with Music Health Alliance is about getting access to mental health support for those who power the music we love.”

The platform will provide music industry professionals with a front door on the internet to mental health support, including:

● Fast, easy-to-use access to services screened by world-class mental health experts
● The ability to filter by mental health challenge, price, location and more
● Services and support spanning the continuum of care, from digital self-care to crisis care and everything in between
● A selection of services specifically designed for children and teens

The partnership also includes plans for collaborative research and reporting to better understand and address mental health challenges in the music industry, as well as potential future events and content initiatives.

On Wednesday night (June 4), Billboard’s annual Country Power Players event, presented by Bud Light and held at Luke Combs‘s Category 10 venue in downtown Nashville, honored several of country music’s top artists and executives.

The Country Power Players event also served as a call to action to aid those in the music community–whether artist, songwriter, musician, touring member, executive or other creative—who are struggling with mental health.

Country duo Brothers Osborne honored Music Health Alliance founder Tatum Allsep with the impact award, for her vision and leadership in launching and spearheading the organization with the mission of providing access to healthcare and mental health resources in order to help music professionals connect with medical and financial solutions.

In presenting Allsep with the impact award, Brothers Osborne’s John Osborne said, “Music Health Alliance’s services are available for free to anyone who has made a living in the music industry for three or more years and services are available to their spouses, partners and children as well. Most recently, MHA once again partnered with our label’s parent, Universal Music Group, in launching the music industry’s mental health fund. The fund provides a wide range of mental health services including personalized recommendations for mental health counselors and psychiatrists, including grants to help offset the costs to anyone in the music industry. That is huge by the way. We all could use that.”

Brothers Osborne also announced they were making a $10,000 donation to Music Health Alliance to help aid the organization’s work, in honor of Allsep, whom TJ called “Nashville’s own Mother Teresa.”

In taking the stage, Allsep thanked Brothers Osborne, saying, “Thank you for commitment to the music mind and thanks for being my friends since day one.”

Allsep recalled having the idea to launch Music Health Alliance 15 years ago, to help those in the music community to get the resources they need. “It is an honor to stand here with the people who shape the sound of our culture, and for the impact of this little engine that could, MHA, to be recognized is so meaningful. To all of you who have walked with us over the years… you’ve kept this mission alive and enabled us to grow from one person on the coffee shop tour in Nashville, to a team of 15 who’ve served 32,000 music people and helped save over $145 million. That’s not monopoly money, y’all. That’s real money.”

Allsep also thanked those on the Music Health Alliance team, saying, “You put boxing gloves on every day and you get in that ring, and you hear the impossible stories, you fight the broken systems, you wrestle and cut the red tape and still you approach every single music person who calls so openly, with open arms and [with] the most powerful medicine that exists on this planet and that’s hope. You are the reason that our mission has an impact.”

She thanked UMG, Brothers Osborne, Dierks Bentley, Marcus King, Sully Erna from Godsmack and others who have stepped up with funding and support, which has helped the organization provide more than 8,000 therapy sessions to help those in need.

“The music mind is filled with so much uninvited noise,” Allsep said. “It’s the noise of pressure, of income instability, of isolation. It is costing our industry big time. Look around. Everybody knows somebody that this has affected. It is costing us creatively, humanly, corporately.”

Allsep noted that in the last few months, Music Health Alliance has seen a 250% increase in requests for mental health support. “That’s not a statistic–that’s a screaming flare. It is an SOS call and we have got to do better,” Allsep said.

“I’m so serious when I say that MHA is equipped with the tools and the knowledge and the partners to help every artist, every songwriter, every crew member, everybody in our industry have access to the mental health that they deserve, but not just in a crisis. We’ve got a have a plan for the long haul. We know music heals. But even the healers need healing. To every label, every publisher, every platform, every artist, everybody who makes a living in this industry. Don’t just admire the mission and impact. Feel it. Fuel it. Fund it.”

She added, “We so desperately need you to stand with us, to nurture the noise. And then, we can truly heal the music.”

Others honored during the evening were Riley Green (honored with the groundbreaker award), Ella Langley (rising star award), BigXThaPlug (innovator award), Little Big Town (the inaugural Ben Vaughn song champion award) and Goldenvoice/AEG’s Stacy Vee (executive of the year).

Billboard continues highlighting the music of more artists this week, as Billboard Country Live launches on June 5, with two days of performances from a range of artists including Jake Worthington, Reyna Roberts, Max McNown, Graham Barham, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Baldridge, Alexandra Kay and Cooper Alan.

Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music-based entertainment company, and Music Health Alliance (MHA), a non-profit organization that provides advocacy and access to healthcare, health insurance and mental health resources for the music community, announced today that they have expanded their relationship to launch the Music Industry Mental Health Fund to provide comprehensive, high-quality outpatient mental health resources for music industry professionals nationwide.

The partnership, which builds upon the four-year-old healthcare access program between UMG and MHA, will provide a wide range of mental health services, such as: individualized recommendations for appropriate mental health counselors and psychiatrists based on patients’ needs; grants to help offset costs; and, if required, funding resource recommendations to ensure continuity of care through additional financial and mental health support. Clients from UMG and beyond will have access to MHA’s team of advocates and initial inquiries will receive a response within 24 hours.

The Music Industry Mental Health Fund was created by UMG and MHA but was established to assist all members of the music industry. Services will be open to current and former music professionals.

UMG’s Chief Impact Officer Susan Mazo said, “We have been working on ways to establish a streamlined pathway for mental health access, funding, and care planning. Growing and continuing our partnership with Tatum and the Music Health Alliance was the most natural way to ensure continuous and effective mental health support for anyone working in our industry.”

Music Health Alliance Founder/CEO Tatum Hauck Allsep said, “Music Health Alliance possesses the comprehensive resources necessary to address the full spectrum of mental health needs for music industry professionals. This includes financial assistance, a continuum of care for both mental and physical health, and wraparound services such as psychiatric support, facilitation of intensive outpatient and inpatient programs, and data collection. MHA’s holistic approach ensures a long-term commitment to the health, well-being, and sustainability of the music industry workforce.”

In addition to the expanded services, MHA offers a full spectrum of mental health and healthcare advocacy services, including:

-Dental Care Resources (via the Richard M. Bates SMILE Fund)

-Group Health Services

-Healthcare Advocacy & Confidential Guidance

-Individual/Family Health Insurance

-Mental Health Resources (via the MHA Mental Health Fund)

-Senior Care Support (including Medicare; via the Price Legacy Fund)

-Vision Care Resources

The mental health program builds upon a successful, four-year healthcare collaboration between the two companies. That program, which provides a Music Health Alliance healthcare concierge to clients, has already served nearly 1,000 clients and saved them more than $12.5 million in healthcare costs.

GRAMMY, CMA and ACM award winner, Ashley McBryde, cut her teeth playing country songs in biker bars — and it shows. The Grand Ole Opry member’s 2018 major label debut, Girl Going Nowhere, (Warner Music Nashville) charmed The New York TimesNPRRolling Stone, Paste, The Washington Post, and more, all en route to landing a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. McBryde closed out 2019 with ACM New Female Artist, CMT Breakout Artist, a New Artist of the Year win at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards and two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.” Her follow-up, Never Will, was tagged by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated of the year alongside NPR, who also ranked her Top 10 RIAA Platinum-Certified single “One Night Standards” as one of the best songs of 2019. The album earned McBryde a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making Never Will the only album nominated for Country Album of the Year by the ACMs, CMAs, and the Recording Academy in the same award season. Her GRAMMY-winning duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” went all the way to No. 1 and earned McBryde and Pearce the ACM and CMA award for Musical Event of the Year. She was also honored with the 2022 CMA International Artist Achievement Award for the most significant creative growth, development, and promotion of the country music industry outside of the United States.

McBryde’s collaborative project, Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville, featuring Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, Pillbox Patti, Caylee Hammack, Aaron Raitiere, and Benjy Davis earned McBryde her third consecutive GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making her a six-time GRAMMY nominee. The project earned McBryde her second consecutive nomination for CMA Album of the Year, along with Music Video of the Year for “Light On In The Kitchen” from her latest critically acclaimed album, The Devil I Know.

McBryde is currently on her headlining The Devil I Know Tour, presented by Ariat, and kicked off 2024 with a sold-out run of shows in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Northern Ireland before returning to North America for the second leg through the summer. ABOUT VINCE GILL

One of the most popular artists in modern country music, Vince Gill is famous for his top-notch songwriting, world-class guitar playing, and warm, soaring tenor — all wrapped up in a quick and easy wit. Gill achieved his big breakthrough in 1990 with “When I Call Your Name,” which won both the Country Music Association’s (CMA) Single and Song of the Year awards, as well as a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. In total, Gill has won 18 CMA Awards, 22 Grammy Awards, and 8 Academy of Country Music Awards.

In 1991, Gill was invited to become a member of The Grand Ole Opry, and in 2007 was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2012, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A gifted songwriter, Gill’s compositions earned him entry into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. He was awarded the prestigious BMI Icon award in 2014. Throughout his career he has released 21 albums, sold over 30M albums, and charted 45 singles. In 2022, Gill was inducted into the Musician’s Hall of Fame.

Always considering himself a musician above all else, Gill has over the years been a part of some iconic bands including Pure Prairie League, The Notorious Cherry Bombs, and The Time Jumpers. In 2017, Gill was asked to join the Eagles on the road and continues to be a part of the historic band’s tour.

ABOUT NATALIE HEMBY

Whether it’s an ingenious turn of phrase or a heart bustin’ through-your-chest chorus, Natalie Hemby infuses her remarkable songwriting with honesty so earthy and pure it resonates long after the first listen. “You know when you hear a song, and it takes you back to a memory?” she asks. “That’s what I want. I want to give people moments to remember.”

Since signing her first publishing deal at 19, the supremely talented and prolific Nashville native has become one of country music’s most successful and sought-after songwriters amassing eight #1 Country singles including Lady A’s “Downtown,” Justin Moore’s “You Look Like I Need A Drink,” Jon Pardi’s “Heartache Medication,” Little Big Town’s “Pontoon,” and “Tornado,” and Miranda Lambert’s “White Liar,” “Automatic,” and “Bluebird.” Her songs have also been recorded by the likes of Kacey Musgraves, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Maren Morris, Sheryl Crow, Dierks Bentley, Eli Young Band, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Isaak, Blake Shelton, and Lee Ann Womack, among many others.

In 2019, together with Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires, Natalie joined The Highwomen. Their self-titled debut album, widely hailed as one of the year’s best, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Country chart and won Americana Music Honors & Awards for Album of the Year, Duo/Group of the Year, and Song of the Year for their single “Crowded Table,” which is also one of two Country Song of the Year GRAMMY® nominations she received this year (the other is for Lambert’s aforementioned “Bluebird.”) In 2020, Natalie won her first GRAMMY® Award, Best Song Written for Visual Media for Lady Gaga’s “I’ll Never Love Again,” from A Star Is Born.

Now she’s set to take centerstage once again with Pins and Needles, a brilliant 11-track collection that captures the full-range of her musical gifts. Pins and Needles, her 2nd solo album (following 2017’s warmly received Puxico), was produced and mixed by her husband Mike Wrucke (Miranda Lambert, Pistol Annies) and features songs she co-wrote with Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne, Jeff Trott, and Rose Cousins among others. The album also includes musical contributions from renowned keyboardist Chuck Leavell and pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz.

Inspired by Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, and the early ’90s rock and roots she came up on, Pins and Needles is replete with ear-worm anthems (“Heroes”), heart-rending ballads, (“Radio Silence” and “Heart Condition”), acid-tongued, sharp-witted swagger, (“Hardest Part About Business”) and deep-grooved rockers (“New Madrid,” and “It Takes One To Know One.”)

Over the course of her spectacular career, Natalie Hemby has quietly become one of Nashville’s MVP’s, a driving force among the city’s songwriting and artist community. With Pins and Needles, she’s poised for even greater recognition, and a well-earned place in the spotlight.

ABOUT AARON RAITIERE

Aaron Raitiere is a songwriter, singer, performer, storyteller, and visual artist from Danville, Kentucky. He’s recently been on the road opening for Anderson East, The Steel Woods, Midland, Paul Cauthen, Miranda Lambert, Brent Cobb, Hayes Carll, Ashley Monroe, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Willie Nelson and Family.

Raitiere won a Grammy in 2019 for co-writing “I’ll Never Love Again” with Lady Gaga, Hillary Lindsay, and Natalie Hemby for A Star Is Born. He’s also placed cuts with Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, Lori McKenna, the Oak Ridge Boys, Lone Bellow, Randy Rogers Band, Chris Shiflett, Midland, Brent Cobb, Shooter Jennings, and more.

Raitiere’s debut album, Single Wide Dreamer, was released in 2022. Anderson East and Miranda Lambert, who co-produced the album, appear alongside Nashville musicians Dave Cobb, Natalie Hemby, and Ashley Monroe, as well as Robert Randolph, Foy Vance, and Bob Weir.

With a laid-back, speak-singing delivery, Single Wide Dreamer immediately conveys Raitiere’s contentment in living a low-key life. And although every song on the album could be considered a love song in its own way, what really ties them together is his observant writing, which is sometimes reflective, sometimes irreverent, but always inspired by his own experiences.

An avid reader, Raitiere names Edward Abbey, John McPhee, and Delia Owens as among his favorite authors, while musically he cites artists ranging from Raffi to Dave Van Ronk to Too $hort. Among his greatest influences is Shel Silverstein, a master of wordplay and storytelling. A talented painter and illustrator himself, Raitiere often posts his original sketches to Instagram and recently had his first art exhibit at LabCanna in Nashville, Tennessee.

Celine Dion Song Memorabilia Goes Up for Auction Amid Singer’s Tragic Health Battle with Stiff Person Syndrome https://www.musichealthalliance.com/celine-dion-song-memorabilia-goes-up-for-auction-amid-singers-tragic-health-battle-with-stiff-person-syndrome/ Mon, 23 Oct 2023 18:33:21 +0000 https://www.musichealthalliance.com/?p=5234 ... Read more »]]> Handwritten lyrics for two Celine Dion songs will be among the items on the block as Julien’s Auctions hosts Music Health Alliance’s Lyrics for a Cause benefit auction next month. The penned lyrics are for two of the songs the Grammy-winner, 55, has recorded: “The Prayer”, her 1999 collaboration with famed Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli; and this year’s “The Gift”, from the film Love Again. The package for “The Prayer” features handwritten bars and lyrics and a signature from one of the songwriters, the renowned David Foster, according to Julien’s. “The Gift” package is signed by songwriter Tina Parol and includes a compact disc copy of Love Again with a handwritten inscription that reads ‘Love is The Gift!’

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer made headlines earlier this year when she canceled all of her shows through April of 2024 as she battles a neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome. The syndrome leads to muscle spasms and rigid muscles which can be caused by a light touch or loud noise, and can impact one’s posture and mobility. “Unfortunately, the spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to”, the French-Canadian artist said on Instagram in December of 2022.

The “That’s the Way It Is” artist’s memorabilia is among items to be auctioned off for Music Health Alliance’s Lyrics for a Cause benefit auction, which coincides with Julien’s celebrating its 20th anniversary in Nashville. Music Health Alliance is a nonprofit organization that gives people in the music industry help with healthcare advocacy and resources.

Among the other notable names whose memorabilia will be auctioned off include Garth Brooks, Melissa Etheridge, Rick Springfield, Hozier, Kenny Chesney, Kelsea Ballerini, and Keith Urban, among others. The bidding commences Monday [October 23] and ends Tuesday, November 14, at 6:00 pm CST, as the auction will be held concurrently online at Julien’s Live Auctions and in person at the Hard Rock Cafe Nashville.

Julien’s Auctions is honored and privileged to partner again with Music Health Alliance on our annual benefit relief initiative”, Julien’s co-founder and executive director Martin Nolan said. “For 20 years, Julien’s has included philanthropy in our auctions to give back to the music community that has touched our lives through their artistry and gifts. We look forward to presenting this auction for the first time in Nashville where the public will be offered a chance to own these special and unique lyrics of some of the biggest songs in music history while supporting this critical and important cause.”

The lot also includes a pair of memorabilia items from the Eagles, including the musical sheets for the songs “Best of My Love” and “New Kid in Town”, both written and signed by JD Souther, who wrote the classics with Don Henley and the late Glenn Frey. Irish singer-songwriter Hozier for the auction signed a branded canvas tote bag for the auction with the lyrics for the song “Take Me to Church”. Another item up for sale is a penned page of lyrics for the classic, “l’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” from Roger Cook. The 1971 track from the Hillside Singers was co-written with Roger Greenaway and Bill Backer.
